Today was my last day working with Sweet Pictures. It was a very busy day being the live show day at Santa Pod raceway. Our usual quiet nearly abandoned track was instead heaving with fans. The atmosphere was brilliant and as the stunts Terry Grant and Tony Dixon were performing have never been done before the audience reaction was great. It was sad that it was the last day as the crew were a fantastic bunch of talented friendly people. As well as meeting new people it was nice to see three of the people I worked with at the Olympics; Don (Director), big Ben (slow motion camera Sony FS700) and little Ben on GoPro’s. I learnt a lot working on this production; about how 3D is filmed and about stunt driving! To top it off we had an interesting wrap party with the crew and hope to stay in contact and see what they’re all up to the future!

Over the last few days I have been working with Red Balloon the crew including Big Ben and his FS-700, production manager Bryony and director Andy. The aim was to film academics in their workplace in super slow motion to promote the research at Bournemouth University. It was an interesting shoot, going to many different locations to see the researchers in their subjects environment. So there was a great deal of variety. It was also eye opening to see the amount of different research that goes on within the university. As always it was great to see the FS-700 doing its super slow motion as it always produces such wonderful images.
Today was my first day as a camera assistant working with Sweet Pictures on an exciting 3D project for Discovery called Monster Truck 3D. Where stunt driver Terry Grant has teamed up with monster truck driver Tony Dixon to create some new and exciting stunts. I am working as a camera assistant and it is my first experience in 3D production which is very exciting. When I arrived 3D camera man Tim gave me a crash course in 3D which was very interesting to see how different it is from 2D production. The first day was very eye opening not only in the organisation of the production but also the stunts. The combination of monster truck and stunt car worked so well producing stunts the world has never seen before and I can’t wait till tomorrow for it to continue.
Today I travelled to Stirminter with Equine Productions to film at Anthony Knott’s farm, owner of Hunt Ball, with The Jockey Club. The shoot was in aid of Racing Welfare’s upcoming Wincanton charity race. The shoot was a lot of fun with some amusing scenarios! Check out the final video below. I have just got back from a few fantastic days in Ireland with Equine Productions. The first day was spent flying to Dublin and off to GOFFs horse sales to film Tom Dascombe at the sales. The location was beautiful and the horses were incredible. After filming the sales and a few interviews we set off to the hotel to find it was a lucky luxury and I could soak my aching muscles in the hot tub for the next day! Bright and early we set off from Naas and headed to the stables to film Tom Dascombe’s very well behaved yearlings and I spent the afternoon editing the footage for his website. Ireland was a lovely place and I would love to go back and take a look around, the people were very friendly, the food was great and I made sure I left with a traditional Guinness! Check out some picture of the visit and the yearlings videos below. Tomorrow I am off to Ireland with Equine Productions. I am really looking forward to it as I haven’t been to Ireland before and after having a good time at Beverley I am looking forward to working with them again. We are flying out in the morning, staying over night and flying back on Friday and will be filming and editing lots of horses with Tom Dascombe. I'd better take the GoPro along for the flight!
After a very long time I finally talked myself into getting a GoPro. I was very excited when it arrived and immediately put it to the test by attaching it the my bike helmet and going for a spin. I captured some really interesting footage and am looking forward to receiving my bike mount to try out some more. It also worked really well spying on the birds eating the seeds in the garden as they were not bothered by it. I can’t wait to use it more and I think the dive housing will have to be on my list of things to buy! |
