After the Boat Show at Go Media we thought about how we could improve the Black Magic set up we already have. As the TVS does not allow you to play in graphics you have to find another source to play in that can. We saw it was possible to do this with a laptop however it has to be the latest model as the display settings must match those of the TVS to play out. After a lot of research and thought we came across the Hyperdeck Shuttle and thought we would give it a go. The Shuttle takes SSD cards and can be used as a source to the TVS and to record the footage you are filming live. Our idea is to use it as a VT to either play in something we recorded earlier in the day or to create our own VTs, animated name straps and titles. However when you create the file it must have exactly the same codec as the Shuttle records in. The codec is AVID DNxHD for the compressed setting. we managed to recreate this and play in our own VTs as a source. This paired with the live streaming makes a very exciting set up for the future.

I’ve spent the last few weeks preparing and working at the PSP Southampton Boat Show with Go Media. The whole experience has been very exciting as we have been able to do things in a very different new way this year and have even bigger plans for the London Boat Show in January. Usually at the Boat Show we film items for the BMF for the website and packages for clients for the rest of the week. The aim is to sell tickets to the Boat Show so we go around the stalls making interesting pieces for people to come and see. However a great change this year, making a studio set up possible, is the Black Magic Television Studio. It completely changed the dynamic making the production run smoother and quicker. With our very own Boat Show TV studio area we could set up interviews and stream directly on to the computer and add in a few cut aways later meaning the edit time was significantly less allowing us to turn around double the amount of items. Next year we plan to live stream to the Internet and be live around the show. So not only will we have the studio set up but also a live feed from around the show. Black Magic’s TVS technology made this possible and it will be exciting to use it in the future! I really enjoyed the show especially ladies day where I filmed an interview with Olympian Lizzie Neave and Sunseekers opening with Eddie Jordan and Jensen Button. I also loved operating the C300, the images it produces are beautiful… tempted to get myself a C100 now!
Beneteau were the supplier of the boats for filming at the Olympics and yesterday I went to film with Go Media about why Beneteau was chosen. It was lovely to be back in Weymouth after the Olympics though very different as the security was not there or our big meeting area/dining hall! Even so it was very interesting and having assisted the cameras at the Olympics, only filming a couple of bits, it was great to operate on the water. I found my sea legs quickly and found the experience really enjoyable. It did however make me miss going out to sea so maybe I will have to take up sailing!
This weekend I travelled up to Beverley Racecourse via Newbury with Ben Norton and Jessie Lodge to film their promotional video with Equine Productions as I had met Camerman Dave at the Olympics. The journey put my little car to the test but we made it! On route we stopped via Newbury to film the new yearlings at Manor House Stables then went into London to pick up Ben’s new Sony FS700 for some amazing super slow mo shots. The next morning in Beverley was very fast paced getting the horses ready and warmed up at the stables then it was off to the racecourse. On route we passed through the walls of Castle Howard which I recognised from Brideshead revisited but sadly no view of the castle itself! The horses at Beverley were beautiful and the atmosphere was fantastic. It was one the their busiest race days which meant there was a real buzz. I very much enjoyed my day and look forward to working with Equine Productions again.
